Enjoy Itaocaia

With the aim of presenting Itaocaia’s natural riches and cultural attractions to the local community and tourists, the event, which takes place every two months in Itaocaia Valley, in Itaipuaçu, brings attractions for the whole family and is responsible for passing on knowledge about the neighborhood and the businesses that operate in the Rural Circuit. History, handicrafts, typical gastronomy and music are all part of the event.

In all, more than 15 local artists performed at participating establishments throughout the neighborhood. One of the main attractions of the event is the Fazenda Itaocaia, which can be visited and houses the permanent exhibition “Darwin’s Paths”. In 1832, the British naturalist Charles Darwin stayed there when he researched the region’s fauna and flora to include in his book “The Origin of Species”, which made the scientist internationally famous.

Curta Itaocaia is part of the strategy of the Municipal Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development, known as Maricá 2030, created in 2018 by the Maricá City Council to offer tourism structuring work, which has enabled the creation of new routes and circuits. This work is being carried out by the Maricá Development Company (Codemar), together with the Department of Tourism and the Department of Promotion and Special Projects, which developed the “Vem Viver Maricá” (come to live Maricá) project.
