The main aim of the project is to create safe technological conditions for the use of medicinal plants and to increase the population’s access to traditional herbal products, with a view to strengthening the Unified Health System (SUS) in Maricá.
Created in 2022, Farmacopeia Mari’ká also seeks economic and social development by including family farming in the production of selected species. As well as carrying out research and installing technology in plantations and crops, the project offers training courses at the Jaquin Piñero Public Farm and produces instruction manuals for use by the producers and communities involved.
The courses cover, for example, the properties and uses of the following plants: aloe vera, artichoke, soybean isoflavone, devil’s claw, holy hawthorn, mint, guaco, plantago, sacred cassia, willow, mastic and cat’s claw.
